Remember that survey I conducted months ago amongst female-identified DC fans? As some of you know, the results of it were incorporated into a conference paper, which is currently being rewritten as an article solicited for an academic journal.
That mean little incident between Scott Lobdell and comics reviewer Chifuyu is getting mentioned in a section on the hostility of some of DC’s staff toward female fans. I’m inserting it now.
Fun fact: At the conference, one of the speakers turned out to actually be friends with a DC writer whom she couldn’t name. She confirmed for the audience, after I presented, that DC actively prohibits writers from making progressive changes to female characters or including women in certain stories.
DC, sorry to have to give you such a rough treatment in a publication that media scholars all over the world read, but you earned it, baby.
(Yes, I spy on the fandom for research purposes. Since a lot of people have been curious, I had over 1000 survey responses. Sadly, only a few can be included in the article, but once the article is out, I’ll be able to post some of the others on here, because they were brilliant.)
I would love to read this paper.
